What this template includes
- Your business name, address and contact details
- Customer name and address
- Document number and issue date
- Property address
- Rooms / surfaces
- Coats
- Line items with qty, rate and amount, grouped as labor, materials
- Tax, discounts, amount paid and balance due
Pricing by the square foot
Enter the measured wall area as the quantity with "sq ft" as the unit, and your rate per square foot. Trim and baseboards work the same way in linear feet. The invoice multiplies exactly and rounds only the total of each line.
Keeping the color record
Turn on the color code column and enter the paint code for each material line. Customers keep the invoice and use it to buy matching paint years later.
Questions
Should paint be billed separately from labor?
It is clearer if it is. Customers can see the paint quality they paid for, and if they supplied their own paint you can simply leave the materials group out.
How do I invoice prep work?
Add prep such as patching, sanding and priming as labor lines by the hour or by the area. Separating it explains why one room cost more than a similar one.
Can I take a deposit for materials?
Yes. Issue a deposit invoice first, then enter the deposit in the amount paid box on the final invoice so the balance due is correct.
