Maths & LaTeX tools

Write LaTeX and see it typeset, export equations as images or Word documents, and recognise mathematics from photographs.

Write, render and export mathematical notation

Maths is the one kind of content ordinary software still handles badly. These tools cover the full round trip: composing LaTeX with a live preview, exporting an equation as a picture or an editable Word equation, and recognising mathematics from a photograph back into LaTeX.

The editing and export tools run entirely in your browser on typesetting engines that load on demand. The recognition tools send an image to an external provider, which is stated on each page before you submit anything.

Which Maths & LaTeX tool do you need?

Composing an expression

LaTeX Equation Editor renders as you type, with a symbol palette for Greek letters, operators and structures.

An equation for a slide or a post

LaTeX to Image exports PNG or JPEG with control over font size, colour and a transparent background.

An equation that stays editable in Word

LaTeX to Word produces native Office Math that Word edits directly, and flags constructs that will not convert.

An equation you only have as a picture

Image to LaTeX recognises it and returns editable LaTeX with a typeset preview to check against your source.

A batch or a whole page

Equation to Word handles up to 20 equation images at once; Math Document to Word processes multipage PDFs.

Questions about Maths & LaTeX tools

Is all of LaTeX supported?

No. The editors cover the mathematical subset of LaTeX that the typesetting engines implement, which is what almost all equation writing needs. Full documents, custom packages and arbitrary TeX are out of scope.

Does the Word output contain a real equation or a picture?

A real equation. LaTeX to Word and the recognition tools produce Office Math, which Word treats as a native editable equation object rather than an embedded image.

Do the recognition tools upload my image?

Yes. Image to LaTeX, Equation to Word and Math Document to Word send the image to an external provider. That is stated on each page and requires an explicit action.

How accurate is equation recognition?

It varies with image quality and handwriting and has not been independently measured, so no figure is claimed. Every result is editable and shown with a typeset preview so you can check it against your source.

Which tool do I need for a whole scanned paper?

Math Document to Word, which handles multipage PDFs in document order. Equation to Word is for a batch of separate equation images, and Image to LaTeX for a single expression.
