Bill of supply format
A bill of supply replaces the tax invoice when you cannot charge GST: composition taxpayers, and suppliers of exempt goods or services. Rule 49 of the CGST Rules sets out its contents, and the template never adds tax to it.

What this template includes
- Your business name, address and contact details
- Customer name and address
- Document number and issue date
- Declaration
- Line items with qty, rate and amount
- Tax, discounts, amount paid and balance due
The composition declaration
Composition taxpayers must print "composition taxable person, not eligible to collect tax on supplies" on the bill of supply. The template puts that declaration in the details block, and you can remove it if you are not under composition.
Exempt goods on the same bill
A registered supplier selling only exempt items, such as fresh vegetables, can issue a bill of supply. If you sell both taxable and exempt items to the same customer, a single invoice-cum-bill of supply is allowed.
Questions
Can a bill of supply show GST?
No. Tax is never charged on a bill of supply, which is why the tool hides the tax controls and removes tax from the totals for this document type.
Does a bill of supply need an HSN code?
The HSN or SAC column is included. Whether it is mandatory depends on your turnover, but including it helps buyers and your own returns.
What number format should I use?
The same rule as tax invoices applies: up to 16 characters, unique in the financial year. The template starts at BOS/2025-26/001 style numbering.
