Runs in your browser — nothing is uploadedFree trial: 1 run of Bank Statement Converter every day. After that, 2 credits per run.
Turn a PDF bank statement into Excel, QuickBooks or Tally, checked against its own balances
Add a PDF statement from your bank or card issuer and its transactions are read into a table: date, description, reference, money in, money out and the running balance. Each row is then checked against the balance printed beside it, so a misread figure or a skipped line shows up before it reaches your books.
Download the result as an Excel sheet, a CSV, a QuickBooks or Quicken Web Connect file, OFX, QIF or Tally XML. The statement is read by your browser and nothing is uploaded.
What Bank Statement Converter gives you
Checked against the running balance
The opening balance plus each credit, minus each debit, has to land on the balance printed on that row. Where it does not, the row is marked with the likely cause, such as a reversed sign or a missing line, and the totals are compared with the closing balance.
Formats your software imports
QBO for QuickBooks, QFX for Quicken, OFX 1.0.2, QIF, CSV in three layouts including the one Xero asks for, Excel with real dates and numbers, and Tally vouchers with an optional ledger file.
Several months in one file
Add up to 12 statements and export them together, oldest first. A row that appears in two overlapping statements is kept once, and a gap between one closing balance and the next opening balance is pointed out.
Compare any row with the page
Choose a row to see it outlined on the original page, then correct it, add a row that was missed or delete one. The checks run again as soon as you apply a change.
Tally vouchers sorted by rules
Money out becomes a Payment voucher, money in a Receipt and cash withdrawals a Contra. Rules such as "electricity => Electricity Charges" send matching rows to the right ledger.

Questions about Bank Statement Converter
Is my statement uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened and read by your browser, and the Excel, CSV, QBO or Tally file is made there too. The password of a protected statement is used only to open it and is not kept.
How do I know the rows are right?
Each row is checked against the running balance printed beside it, and the totals against the opening and closing balances. Rows where the balance breaks are marked, with the likely reason, and you can compare them with the page before exporting.
Which banks does it work with?
Any bank or card issuer whose statement PDF has selectable text, which covers most statements downloaded from net banking. It reads the column layout of each file rather than a list of known banks, so separate debit and credit columns, one amount column with Cr and Dr, and signed amounts all work.
Why does it say my statement has no text layer?
The file is a scan or a photo of paper, so it holds a picture of the page rather than text. Download the statement again from net banking as a PDF, which nearly always has a text layer, and use that file instead.
How do I import the QBO file into QuickBooks?
In QuickBooks Desktop choose File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files, pick the .qbo file and link it to your account. In QuickBooks Online, upload it from the bank transactions page. Each row keeps the same ID every time the statement is converted, so QuickBooks can recognise rows it has already imported.
How do I import the XML into Tally?
In TallyPrime, open the company, press Alt+O for Import and choose Transactions, then give the path of the vouchers file. If the ledgers do not exist yet, import the ledger file under Masters first, because Tally rejects a voucher that names a missing ledger.
What does "worked out from the balance" mean on a row?
Some statements print an amount with no sign or column to say which way the money went. The direction is then taken from the running balance: if the balance rose by that amount, it was money in. Those rows are marked so you can check them.
Can it read credit card statements?
Yes. A card statement is recognised from phrases such as payment due date, purchases are counted as money owed rather than money out, and the QBO and OFX files use the credit card format that accounting software expects.
Is my statement uploaded or stored?
No. The PDF is opened by your browser and every file is made there, so the statement never reaches a server. The password of a protected file is used only to open it, and nothing is kept once you close the page.
