Bank statement to Excel

Copying a statement out of a PDF by hand is slow, and pasting it usually leaves dates as text and amounts that will not add up. This converter reads the PDF, checks each row against the balance the bank printed, and gives you an Excel workbook you can sort, filter and total straight away.

No sign-up. Your statement is read in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Free trial: 1 run of Bank Statement Converter every day. After that, 2 credits per run.

What the workbook contains

  • A Transactions sheet: date, value date, description, reference, debit, credit and balance
  • Dates stored as dates and amounts as numbers, so formulas work
  • Indian lakh and crore grouping for rupee statements
  • A filter on the header row
  • A Reconciliation sheet with the opening, total credits, total debits and closing
  • A Source sheet giving the page each row came from

Why the balance check matters

A converter that only copies text can drop a row that runs across a page break, or read 8,184.78 as a credit when it was a withdrawal. Here every row has to take the previous balance to the balance printed on that row. If one does not, it is marked in the table and in the Reconciliation sheet, so you know where to look before the numbers go anywhere.

Newest-first statements

Some banks list the latest transaction at the top. The converter notices this from the dates and turns the rows round, so the workbook always runs from the oldest transaction to the newest and the balance column reads in order.

Questions

Will the dates sort properly in Excel?

Yes. Dates are written as real Excel dates, shown as DD/MM/YYYY by default for rupee statements, so sorting, filters and date formulas work without any cleaning. You can switch to MM/DD/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD before downloading.

Can I put a whole year of statements in one workbook?

Add up to 12 monthly statements at once and download a single workbook. Rows are merged oldest first, a transaction that appears in two overlapping statements is kept once, and each statement gets its own line on the Reconciliation sheet.

What if a row is wrong?

Choose the row in the table to see it outlined on the original page. You can correct the date, description or amounts, add a row that was missed, or delete one, and the balance check runs again straight away.

Does it work with scanned statements?

No. A scan is a picture of the page with no text to read. Download the statement from net banking as a PDF instead; those files have a text layer and convert directly.
