PDF bank statement to OFX
OFX, Open Financial Exchange, is the file format banks use to send transactions to accounting software. Most programs that import bank data accept it, so a statement converted to OFX can go into Xero, Zoho Books, GnuCash and many more without mapping any columns.
No sign-up. Your statement is read in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Programs that import OFX
- Xero: Manage account, then Import a statement
- Zoho Books: Banking, then Import Statement
- GnuCash: File, Import, Import OFX/QFX
- Moneydance: File, Import
- QuickBooks and Quicken: use the QBO or QFX download instead
Why OFX 1.0.2
Version 1.0.2 is the older, SGML-based form of OFX, and it is the one importers have supported the longest. The file carries each transaction with a type, date, amount, name, memo and a stable ID, along with the account details and the closing balance.
Bank ID and account type
Some programs use the bank routing number and the account number to decide which account an OFX file belongs to. Enter your routing number if you have one, and choose checking, savings, money market or line of credit to match the account.
Questions
What is the difference between OFX, QFX and QBO?
All three share the same structure. QFX and QBO add a few Intuit tags that Quicken and QuickBooks look for, such as a bank ID. For any program other than Quicken or QuickBooks, plain OFX is the one to choose.
How are long descriptions handled?
OFX gives the payee name only 32 characters, so the name holds the start of the description and the full text, with the reference, goes into the memo field that most programs show alongside it.
Are accented letters and the rupee sign kept?
OFX 1.0.2 files are plain ASCII, so accents are dropped and the rupee sign is written as INR. Amounts and dates are unaffected, and the Excel download keeps the original characters if you need them.
Can I merge several months into one OFX file?
Yes. Add up to 12 statements and one OFX file is made with every transaction, oldest first, and duplicates from overlapping statements removed. The period in the file runs from the first statement to the last.
