QBO to PDF

Open QBO, QFX and OFX bank downloads as a readable statement with running balances, and save them as PDF, Excel or CSV. Bank and credit card files, read in your browser.

Runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded

Free trial: 1 run of QBO to PDF every day. After that, 2 credits per run.

Open a QBO, QFX or OFX file and read it as a bank statement

QBO, QFX and OFX are the files banks provide for QuickBooks, Quicken and other accounting software. Opened in a text editor they are a wall of tags. Add one here and see its transactions as a statement: dates, payees, memos, check numbers, money in, money out and a running balance worked back from the closing balance in the file.

Save it as a PDF to print or send, or as Excel or CSV to work with the numbers. Files are read in your browser, so account numbers and transactions are not uploaded.

What QBO to PDF gives you

Every common flavour

OFX 1 files in the older SGML style, including ones with unclosed tags, and OFX 2 XML files are both read, for bank accounts and credit cards, in any currency.

Running balance

When the file holds a closing balance, the opening balance and the balance after every transaction are worked out from it, and the totals of money in and out are shown.

Checks you would miss

Transactions that share an ID, which can mean a double import, and a closing balance dated before the last transaction are pointed out, as are rows with no readable date or amount.

Several files at once

Add up to 20 files. Download one PDF with every statement, a ZIP with one PDF per file, or a single Excel or CSV file with all the transactions.

Private details hidden

Turn on Hide account numbers to show only the last four digits of each account in the PDF, Excel and CSV files.

How to use QBO to PDF

  1. Add your files

Choose one or more .qbo, .qfx or .ofx files exported from online banking or accounting software.

  2. Check the statement

Read the transactions and balances on screen, and pick the date format, paper size and order you want.

  3. Download

Save a PDF, an Excel workbook or a CSV file. One run covers all three formats for the same files.

Limitations

  • Investment and brokerage statements are not supported; only bank and credit card statements are read.
  • A running balance needs a closing balance in the file; without one, transactions and totals are shown without it.
  • Up to 20 files of 25 MB each at a time.

Questions about QBO to PDF

Is the PDF an official bank statement?

No. It is a readable copy of the transactions in your file, and its footer says so. Where an official statement is required, download the one your bank issues.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The QBO, QFX or OFX file is read by your browser and the PDF, Excel and CSV files are made there, so account numbers and transactions stay on your device.

What is a QBO file?

A QBO file is a QuickBooks Web Connect download: an OFX statement with an Intuit bank ID added. QFX is the Quicken version of the same thing, and OFX the plain standard, so all three hold the same kind of data and open here the same way.

Why is there no running balance?

The file has no closing balance in it, so there is nothing to work back from. Some banks leave it out of QBO downloads. The transactions and the totals of money in and out are still complete.

Can I convert a QBO file to Excel or CSV?

Yes. The same files can be downloaded as an Excel workbook with real dates and numbers, or as a CSV file. Payee names and memos that start with a formula character are written as text, so a spreadsheet will not run them as formulas.

How do I get a QBO file from my bank?

In online banking, look for a download or export option on the account's transactions page and choose QuickBooks Web Connect, which saves a .qbo file. Quicken and Microsoft Money downloads give a .qfx or .ofx file, which works here too.

Are investment accounts supported?

No. Files that hold only brokerage or investment statements are turned away with a message saying so. When a file has bank or card statements alongside investments, the bank and card statements are shown.
