Resume format for freshers

A fresher resume has one job: to show an employer what you can already do when you have little or no full-time experience. In India that usually means education first with your marks, then internships, projects and positions of responsibility, all on one page. This page opens the Campus template with a made-up B.Com fresher example on A4, ready to edit, score and download.

No sign-up to write and check, and downloads are free with a free account. Your documents stay in this browser; text goes online only when you press an AI button.

Free trial: 1 run of Resume & Cover Letter Builder every day. After that, 2 credits per run. Only the AI actions count as runs; building, checking and downloading are free.

What a fresher resume needs

  • A two-line summary naming the role you want, not a generic objective
  • Degree, college, year and CGPA or percentage, then Class XII and Class X
  • Internships and part-time work, each with one or two results
  • Two or three projects with the tools you used and what they achieved
  • Positions of responsibility, such as a club, a fest or NSS
  • Skills grouped by type, and languages known
  • A professional email address and a phone number you answer

Summary or career objective?

Old templates open with an objective such as 'to work in a challenging environment'. Recruiters skip these because every fresher writes the same thing. Replace it with two lines that name the role, your strongest proof and one skill the job needs, for example: 'B.Com graduate with a six-month accounts internship and working knowledge of GST returns, looking for an accounts executive role.'

Personal details and the declaration

Private employers rarely need your date of birth, father's name, marital status, religion or a photo, and leaving them out saves space for your projects. Add them only when the employer asks, as some government and school applications do. A short declaration with place and date at the end is still common in India: choose India under Country & language and press Add the Declaration section, or leave it off.

Making projects count when you have no job yet

Treat each project like a job: a title, the tools, and one line on what it did, with a number if you have one. A final-year project, a hackathon entry or a course project on real public data all qualify. Link to code or a short report where you can, and choose the two or three projects closest to the role rather than listing everything you did in college.

Questions

Should a fresher resume be one page?

Yes. With no full-time jobs to describe, one well-filled page is enough, and recruiters at campus drives often spend less than a minute on each resume. The page check here shows how full the page is, so you can add a project rather than leave half of it blank.

Should I write percentage or CGPA?

Use the scale your university uses, and convert only if the employer asks for a percentage. Give Class XII and Class X marks while you are a fresher, because many campus and off-campus application forms ask for them.

Is a photo needed on a fresher resume?

Not for most private companies, and screening software ignores it. Add one only if the job advert or the application form asks, which some schools, airlines and government recruiters still do.

What if I have no internship?

Lead with projects, then college roles and any part-time or volunteer work. A course project with a clear result, a certificate course that taught you a tool the job needs, or a fest you helped run all show the habits an internship would.
