LaTeX Equation Editor

Type a LaTeX expression and watch KaTeX render it as you type, with a symbol palette and visible syntax errors.

Runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded

Free trial: 1 run of LaTeX Equation Editor every day. After that, 2 credits per run.

Write LaTeX maths and see it typeset as you type

Type an expression and it renders immediately, with a symbol palette for Greek letters, operators, relations and structures when you cannot recall a command. Syntax errors are reported verbatim rather than silently swallowed. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you write is transmitted.

What LaTeX Equation Editor gives you

Live rendering

The typeset result updates as you type, so a missing brace shows up immediately rather than at the end.

Symbol palette

Four groups — Greek, operators, relations and structures — insert the right command without a lookup table.

Errors shown in full

When an expression will not parse, the engine's own message is shown so you can find the actual problem.

MathML alongside the preview

The MathML is generated too, ready to copy into a document or a page that expects it.

Entirely local

The typesetting engine loads into your browser; unpublished work stays on your device.

How to use LaTeX Equation Editor

  1. Type your expression

Up to 10,000 characters of LaTeX maths.

  2. Use the palette

Click a symbol to insert its command at the cursor.

  3. Watch the preview

Fix anything the error message points at.

  4. Copy what you need

Take the LaTeX source or the generated MathML.

Limitations

  • This is not a full TeX compiler; document-level commands are unsupported.

Questions about LaTeX Equation Editor

Which LaTeX does it support?

KaTeX covers the mathematical subset of LaTeX. Full documents, custom packages and arbitrary TeX are out of scope.

What happens with invalid syntax?

The error is shown explicitly rather than silently rendering something incorrect.

Is all of LaTeX supported?

No. This covers the mathematical subset that the typesetting engine implements, which is what almost all equation writing needs. Full documents, custom packages, \documentclass and arbitrary TeX macros are out of scope.

My expression will not render. How do I find the problem?

Read the error message, which is shown verbatim rather than replaced with something generic. An unmatched brace is the usual cause, and it breaks everything after it — build long expressions in pieces and check each one renders before joining them.

How do I make brackets grow around a tall fraction?

Use \left( and \right) instead of plain parentheses. They size themselves automatically around whatever they contain, which matters for fractions, matrices and anything with a summation in it.

Is my work saved between visits?

No. Nothing is stored and the expression is never transmitted — the typesetting engine runs entirely in your browser. Keep a copy elsewhere if the expression took a while to build.

How do I get an image or a Word equation out of this?

This page is an editor and preview only. Use LaTeX to Image to export a PNG or JPEG, or LaTeX to Word for an equation Word can still edit.

Can I use this to learn LaTeX?

It is a reasonable way in. The symbol palette shows the command for each symbol as you insert it, and the live preview means you see the effect of every change immediately rather than after a compile step.
