LaTeX to Word

Convert LaTeX into a Word-compatible document containing OMML equations, or export MathML separately for other editors.

Runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded

Free trial: 1 run of LaTeX to Word every day. After that, 2 credits per run.

Convert LaTeX into a Word equation you can still edit

Produce a .docx containing a native Office Math equation, or copy the MathML to paste elsewhere. Word treats the result as a real equation object rather than a picture, so it can be edited in Word's own equation editor. Constructs that will not survive the conversion are listed before you download, instead of being dropped silently.

What LaTeX to Word gives you

Native Office Math output

The equation arrives as OMML, which Word edits directly — not an image pasted into a document.

MathML as well

Copy the MathML for systems that take it directly, such as equation editors and publishing pipelines.

Warns about unsupported constructs

Anything in the MathML that the Word conversion cannot represent is named before you download.

Live preview

The typeset expression is shown as you edit, so you confirm the maths before exporting it.

Runs in your browser

All three conversion stages happen locally; your expression is not transmitted.

How to use LaTeX to Word

  1. Enter your LaTeX

    Up to 10,000 characters.

  2. Check the preview

Confirm the expression typesets the way you intended.

  3. Review any warnings

See which constructs will not reach Word, if any.

  4. Download or copy

Take the .docx, or copy the MathML.

Limitations

  • Conversion covers the KaTeX-supported subset; exotic TeX constructs are reported as unsupported.

Questions about LaTeX to Word

Is the equation editable in Word?

The DOCX embeds OMML, which Word treats as a native equation. MathML is offered separately for editors that prefer it.

Are unsupported constructs flagged?

Yes. Constructs that cannot be represented are listed explicitly rather than being dropped silently.

Does Word treat this as a real equation or a picture?

A real equation. The output is Office Math, which Word opens as an editable equation object you can click into and change, rather than an image that happens to show maths.

How do I move equations from LaTeX into a Word template?

Convert them one at a time here and paste the results in. The output is a single equation paragraph rather than a whole document, so a journal or institutional template keeps its own formatting.

What does the unsupported constructs warning mean?

Some MathML elements have no equivalent in Office Math. Rather than dropping them silently, anything that will not survive the conversion is named before you download, so you know exactly what to check in the result.

Why does the Word equation look different from the preview?

Word renders Office Math with its own fonts and spacing rules, so the result will not be pixel-identical to the browser preview. The mathematics is the same; the typesetting is Word's.

Can I edit the LaTeX source inside Word afterwards?

No. Word receives the rendered equation, not your LaTeX. You edit it in Word's own equation editor from then on, so keep the LaTeX if you will need to make changes there.

Why can I not export an invalid expression?

Because a mangled equation in a document is worse than no equation. Validation happens before the conversion runs, so a syntax error stops the export rather than producing something that looks wrong in Word.
