Runs in your browser — nothing is uploadedFree trial: 1 run of Excel to JSON every day. After that, 2 credits per run.
Read a worksheet out of Excel, LibreOffice or Numbers as JSON
Load an .xlsx, .xls, .ods or CSV file, choose the worksheet, and get a JSON array. Every sheet is listed with its row count so you pick the right one. Dates come back as ISO 8601 strings and empty cells as empty strings, which makes the output predictable to work with. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.
What Excel to JSON gives you
Worksheet picker
Every sheet in the workbook is listed with its row count, so a multi-tab file is no obstacle.
Several spreadsheet formats
Modern .xlsx, legacy .xls, OpenDocument .ods and plain CSV are all accepted.
Dates as ISO strings
Spreadsheet date serial numbers are converted to ISO 8601, so you get a date rather than 45000.
Predictable empty cells
Blanks come through as empty strings rather than missing keys, keeping every row the same shape.
Reads on your device
The workbook is parsed in the browser, so commercial data is not sent anywhere.

Questions about Excel to JSON
Are formulas calculated?
No. The reader returns the value cached in the file by the application that last saved it. Formulas are not evaluated.
How are dates handled?
Excel stores dates as serial numbers; they are converted to ISO date strings so the JSON stays readable.
How do I convert an Excel file to JSON?
Load the workbook, pick the worksheet you want from the list, and copy the resulting array. Modern .xlsx, legacy .xls, OpenDocument .ods and plain CSV are all accepted, and the file is parsed in your browser.
Are Excel formulas calculated?
No. You get the value cached when the file was last saved, not the formula behind it. If a result looks stale, open the workbook in Excel, let it recalculate, save, and convert again.
Why is my date showing as a number like 45000?
It should not here — spreadsheet date serial numbers are converted to ISO 8601 strings during the read, so you get a readable date rather than the underlying count of days.
Which worksheet will it use?
Whichever you choose. Every sheet is listed with its row count, which is the fastest way to confirm you picked the right tab in a workbook with several similar ones.
My output looks messy. What should I check?
Merged cells and multi-row headers. The first row is used as the header, so a layout with a title row above the real headings will produce odd keys. Tidy the sheet into a plain grid before converting.
Do charts and images come through?
No. Only cell values are read, so charts, images, macros and formatting are ignored. That is usually what you want when the goal is data rather than presentation.
