CSV to JSON

Parse CSV or TSV into a JSON array with header detection, delimiter choice and an explicit, opt-in type-inference policy.

Runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded

Free trial: 1 run of CSV to JSON every day. After that, 2 credits per run.

Turn a spreadsheet export into JSON an API can accept

Paste CSV or load a file and get a JSON array back. Quoted fields containing commas and line breaks are handled properly, the delimiter is detected automatically, and type inference is off by default so identifiers keep their leading zeros. Files up to 25 MB and 200,000 rows are parsed in your browser.

What CSV to JSON gives you

Delimiter detection

Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe are detected automatically, or pick one explicitly when a file is ambiguous.

Header row handling

Use the first row as object keys, or switch it off when the export has no header.

Type inference you control

Off by default, so 007 and 0123456789 survive as text. Switch it on to get real numbers and booleans.

Proper quoted-field parsing

Values containing commas, quotes or line breaks are read correctly rather than splitting the row.

Row-level error reporting

A malformed row is reported with its number, so you can fix the source instead of guessing.

How to use CSV to JSON

  1. Add your CSV

Paste the text or load a file of up to 25 MB.

  2. Confirm the options

Check the delimiter and whether the first row is a header.

  3. Decide on type inference

Leave it off to keep everything as text, which is safest for IDs and codes.

  4. Copy or download the JSON

The result is a plain array of objects.

Limitations

  • Very large files are bounded by browser memory.

Questions about CSV to JSON

Will my leading zeros survive?

Yes. Values stay as text by default, so an ID like 00123 is preserved. Type inference is opt-in.

Are quoted commas handled?

Yes. Parsing follows RFC 4180, so quoted fields containing commas, quotes and newlines are handled correctly.

How do I convert a CSV file to JSON?

Paste the text or load the file, confirm the delimiter and header settings, and copy the resulting array of objects. It parses in your browser, so commercial data and customer records are never transmitted.

Why did my postcodes and IDs lose their leading zeros?

They will not here, because type inference is off by default and every value stays as text. Switch it on only when you genuinely want real numbers and booleans, and check any column of codes afterwards.

My columns came out wrong. What happened?

Almost always the delimiter. Many European exports use semicolons rather than commas because the comma is the decimal separator there. Detection usually gets it right, but you can set it explicitly when a file is ambiguous.

Does it handle values containing commas or line breaks?

Yes. Quoted fields are parsed properly, so an address with a comma in it or a note spanning two lines stays in one field instead of splitting the row. A malformed row is reported with its number rather than silently mangled.

How large a file can it handle?

Up to 25 MB and 200,000 rows. Check the row count in the result against your source afterwards — a mismatch usually means an unclosed quote somewhere in the file.

Is the output safe to open in a spreadsheet?

Treat untrusted data carefully. Values beginning with =, + or @ are not escaped, so if this data ever returns to a spreadsheet those cells can be interpreted as formulas. Review anything you did not produce yourself.
