A non-negotiable bill of lading: the freight is consigned to a named consignee and cannot be transferred by endorsing the document. It is the usual form for domestic truck shipments in the United States.
What must a bill of lading include?
Under 49 CFR 373.101, a motor carrier’s receipt shows the names of the consignor and consignee, the origin and destination points, the number of packages, a description of the freight and its weight. The checker flags any of these that are missing.
How is the freight class worked out?
Open Class from size on a freight line and enter the size of one handling unit. The tool divides the line’s weight by its volume in cubic feet and reads the density against the NMFC scale in force since July 2025.
What does a hazmat line need?
In this order: the UN or NA identification number, the proper shipping name, the hazard class or division and the packing group, with an X in the H.M. column and a 24-hour emergency response phone number on the paper.
What is the 17-digit bill of lading number?
The GS1 Global Shipment Identification Number: your GS1 company prefix, a shipment reference and a check digit. The tool can build one from your prefix and checks the digit, so the barcode scans as GS1-128.
