Translate text between languages, with a tone if you need one
Translate up to 5,000 characters between well over a hundred languages, with automatic source detection and right-to-left scripts handled properly. A tone setting can rewrite the result as professional, casual, formal, concise and more. Your text is sent to an external provider. Where a tone has been applied, the page says the wording is no longer a faithful translation.

Custom instruction
Give your own direction when none of the presets describes the register you need.

Questions about Translator
Is my text sent as I type?
No. Your text is not transmitted until you press Translate. Detection is a source mode only and can never be chosen as a target.
What is the difference between tone modes and translation?
Standard is a straight translation. The other tones ask the model to rewrite in a style, which changes wording and is not a faithful translation.
What is the difference between Standard and the other tones?
Standard translates without rewriting, which is what you want whenever accuracy matters. Every other tone asks for a rewrite in a style, so the wording changes and is no longer faithful — the result is labelled when that has happened.
How much text can I translate at once?
Up to 5,000 characters per request, with a live counter as you type. Split a longer document at paragraph boundaries rather than mid-sentence, so each part keeps enough context to be translated well.
Do I need to know what language the text is in?
No, leave the source on detect and the provider identifies it. For very short text it is worth setting the source explicitly, since detection has little to work with in a handful of words.
Does it handle Arabic, Hebrew and other right-to-left scripts?
Yes, with the correct writing direction rather than displaying the text backwards. Over a hundred locales are available, each with its direction handled properly.
Is this good enough for a legal or medical document?
Treat it as a strong draft. For anything legal, medical or contractual, have the result checked by a fluent speaker before it is used — machine translation is reliable for gist and often good for tone, but not accountable.
Is my text sent anywhere?
Yes, to an external translation provider along with the language pair. The source text, the translation and the detected language are never logged by us.
